In many ways, NaNo is the exact opposite of serial writing. Serials unfold over months, years, or longer, teasing and torturing the reader with silent stretches of anticipation between carefully crafted episodes. On the other hand, NaNo is a spontaneous tsunami of words, exploding onto the landscape like a primordial force of nature – effervescent, inchoate and powerful. Serials are all about the careful turning of the knife; NaNo is the bomb under the chair.
