In Chapter 1 of a five part series, we get a brief glimpse of our protagonist, Nicco, in the future where she’s racing through the underground tunnels toward a confrontation with an enemy who’s planning to crash the Matrix, killing billions. Then we flash back to her life before being freed from the Matrix. We meet her adoptive parents and “compatriots of circumstance,” Tetra and Diode. In the spirit of the Matrix movie trilogy, this story is meant to be enjoyed as a popcorn-munching action ride, but there are levels of political and social satire to be enjoyed, as well. The first chapter is here to set things up and kick thing off.
